The Justice Commission is comprised of one officially appointed representative of each member denomination. The Justice Commission affirms: “We, as Christians, called by God and committed as disciples of Christ, are compelled by the Spirit of Love and Compassion to seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. As members of the Body of Christ, we embrace Christ's ministry, identifying with those who suffer, confronting the evils in our human systems and societies that drive toward disintegration, and seeking to transform our society with the life-giving force of the Gospel.”

For the Justice Commission to become involved in any issue, it must be able to ground its actions in a Public Policy Statement (see Publications in this web-site) which has been approved by a consensus vote among the member denominations. The Justice Commission is chaired by Rev. Jann Halloran.

The Justice Commission’s presently focused involvements are enabling our member denominations to collaboratively address:

Health Care Reform
Immigration
Kids First

Combating Domestic Violence

Other issues:
Legislative Advocacy: Under the authority of our offically adopted Public Policy Statements, we advocate within the Colorado legislature as a voice for the poor and margainilized. We also address moral issues such as the death penalty, state budget priorities and immigration issues. When we pledge "liberty and justice for all" we mean it.

Affordable Housing: as a founding member of Housing Justice!, we continue to be involved in the interfaith effort to advocate for affordable and accessible housing for all Coloradans. Equality: We will be conducting a campaign to educate our member congregations about ENDA (Employment Nondiscrimination Act) which ensures LGBT employees are treated with equality and fairness when it come to employment issues.

Children’s issues: We collaborate with Every Child Matters – Tennyson Center around kid’s issues and advocating for the Children’s Action Agenda. Visit www.everychildmatters.org/colorado or www.childabuse.org

Domestic Violence: We collaborate with FAITH (Fighting Abuse In The Home) and the Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence to educate pastors and other care givers about recognizing signs of domestic violence and community resources. We are working to partner local congregation and violence shelters across the state. A faith community Domestic Violence Summit will be held Maech 10, 2010.

Child Abuse: We collaborate with the state agency of Colorado Children’s Trust Fund to help educate congregations about the resources to combat child abuse.

Iraq War consequences: provide resources for pastors who are trying to help returning vets and families with emotional, psychological, financial issues. Click here to read more.

Conflict resolution: October is Conflict Resolution Month.

Congregations/Families with special needs: Providing resources for congregations that wish to do a better job of serving families with special needs children.
