International Singing Star to Sing At Easter Sunrise Service
The Colorado Council of Churches sponsors the annual Easter Sunrise Service held in the dramatic setting of Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater. Annually, over 10,000 people experience this powerful and joyous celebration of Christ's resurrection.
In 2010, the 63nd annual Easter Sunrise service will be held on Sunday, April 4. Music begins at 6:00 AM. Gates at Red Rocks will open at 4:30 AM. This is an outdoor service -- dress warmly!
The Rev. Hollis Booker, Sr. Pastor of St. Luke's Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will bring the message.
Briar Branch, a Bluegrass group made up of Discipes of Christ clergy and families, will open the service with upbeat and celebrative music. Women of Note from St. Luke's UMC under the direction of Dr. Jim Ramsey will return from last year's service.
When Bono stated recently, "I think she has one of the greatest voices the human ear has ever experienced", he was heralding what many people know already about The First Lady of Celtic music, Moya Brennan. She sings like nothing you’ve ever heard before! Moya is presently in the United States on tour and has a performance in Denver on Saturday night. She has graciously agreed to volunteer her voice and time to our Easter Sunday celebration.
People all over the world will be able to access the service and be spiritually inspired as the service will be web-cast live.
Admittance and parking are free. However, worshippers are asked to bring non-perishable food items to contribute to COMPA Food Ministry at the gates.
An offering is received as a part of the worship service. A tithe (10%) of the offering is given to homeless shelter programs in the state of Colorado. The balance of the offering is used to cover the substantial costs of this annual celebration of Easter.
Ten thousand people gather for this annual celebration of the resurrection. For many of them, this is their only exposure to the Gospel. Individuals may support the service by sending a check to the Colorado Council of Churches, 3690 Cherry Creek South Drive, Denver, CO 80209.
